Legendary tube dynamics. True stereo precision. Mastering-grade elegance.

The YEAR 660 is not about aggressive compression — it’s about shaping dynamics with effortless musicality, depth, and unmistakable tube character.

Rooted in one of the most iconic variable-mu limiter designs in recording history and elevated through modern engineering, the YEAR 660 represents the evolution of a true studio classic.

It delivers silky gain reduction, rich harmonic depth, and an organic sense of movement that remains remarkably transparent even under compression.

This collection was captured from a carefully selected matched pair, making it an ideal companion for true stereo mastering and mix bus processing.

Each channel has been profiled independently to preserve the subtle analog differences that give premium hardware its depth, realism, and spacious stereo image.

Audio Demo

Compare the original hardware signal and the NAM profile across a range of sources — full mixes, drums, bass, vocals, and more.
Each example demonstrates how closely the profile captures the tube harmonics, compression behavior, and dimensional stereo character of the hardware.
The NAM and hardware samples are gain-matched to allow for a more accurate evaluation of the capture’s fidelity.
For additional context, a dry (unprocessed) version is also included.

True Stereo Operation

The original hardware consists of a carefully matched stereo pair, with each unit maintaining its own subtle analog personality while operating as a perfectly balanced mastering system.

To faithfully recreate this behavior, every CH1 and CH2 profile was captured independently rather than duplicated across channels.

When loaded using TSC Rack’s L/R Split mode, the matched pair behaves exactly as intended—preserving stereo imaging, dimensionality, and the delicate channel interaction that makes premium analog mastering hardware so special.

Sound Characteristics

  • Silky vari-mu compression with exceptionally smooth gain reduction
  • Rich tube harmonics add depth without sacrificing clarity
  • Comp and Limit DC modes provide two distinct dynamic responses
  • Independent matched-pair captures preserve authentic stereo behavior
  • Designed for mastering, mix bus processing, and premium stereo enhancement

Why this capture is different

  • Captured from a rare factory-matched pair of valve limiters
  • Independent CH1 and CH2 captures for authentic True Stereo operation
  • Multiple release times and both Comp / Limit DC modes included
  • Consistent mastering-grade calibration across every profile
  • Optimized for TSC Rack’s L/R Split workflow

Gain Staging Advice

Our captures are pre-calibrated at -18 dBFS input level.
For best results, we recommend feeding the plugin with an input signal close to -18 dBFS.

Like the original hardware, the amount of compression and harmonic coloration naturally changes with input level.

Lower levels preserve transparency and dynamic nuance, while hotter levels introduce increased tube saturation, richer harmonics, and more assertive vari-mu compression.

Adding to my previosu comment… Actually, I think when I am mixing in the box I will start mixing into the 660 profile, this is really good. Really my style of sound. Thanks again!

I love every setting. To me a good 660 like this just sounds like a finished record. This is my first time hearing what the Yoshino product has to offer. I tested the profiles on an unfinished track with heavy amount of synth and drums, this was a very good fit for the track! The snare reverb really comes to life in the perfect way.

Now I am liking my old synth track again, and will very much enjoy using the 660 and all it’s character. Thank you very much for your work capturing this unit!
