The Biggest Leap Forward in Neural Amp Modeler History

In June 2026, after more than three years of development, Neural Amp Modeler finally made the leap from A1 to A2.

All Tokyo Studio Capture NAM profiles have now been updated for the new NAM A2 architecture.

This is not a minor update.

For the first time, it genuinely feels as though neural modeling has crossed into a new category of realism.

NAM A2 represents a major breakthrough in neural audio modeling, delivering a level of accuracy that was previously difficult to imagine inside a DAW. According to large-scale blind listening tests, A2 outperformed previous NAM models as well as several leading commercial modeling platforms.

Closer to Real Hardware Than Ever

The goal of Tokyo Studio Capture has always been simple:

Capture real hardware as faithfully as possible.

With NAM A2, the gap between the original hardware and the neural model has become remarkably small. Improvements in the architecture allow captures to reproduce harmonic behavior, dynamics, saturation, compression, and transient response with even greater precision than before.

In many cases, distinguishing the hardware from the capture in a blind comparison becomes surprisingly difficult.

Updated Across the Entire TSC Library

very actively maintained Tokyo Studio Capture profile has been retrained and updated for NAM A2.

Whether you’re using:

* Compressors
* Equalizers
* Saturators
* Mic Preamps
* Tape Emulators
* Master Bus Processors

you can now experience the benefits of the latest NAM technology throughout the entire catalog.

Better Sound. Better Efficiency.

NAM A2 doesn’t only improve accuracy.

It is also significantly more efficient than previous NAM generations, allowing more instances to run simultaneously while achieving even greater realism.

For modern production workflows, that means higher fidelity with fewer compromises.

Using A2 Profiles

Using A2 Profiles

To use A2 profiles, you’ll need a plugin that supports the new A2 architecture.

Officially Supported Plugin

Gateway (formerly Neural Amp Modeler)

Gateway is the official plugin from the NAM project and is completely free to use.

With the introduction of A2 support, the original Neural Amp Modeler plugin has been renamed to Gateway.

A2-Full vs A2-Lite

A2 profiles can be used in two different modes:

A2-Full

A2-Full is the highest-accuracy model available and is designed for professional audio production.

Compared to the previous A1 generation, A2-Full delivers improved sound quality while reducing CPU usage by approximately 30–40%.

In practical terms, the CPU resources required to run two A1 Standard models can now run roughly three A2-Full models.

For critical mixing and mastering applications, A2-Full is recommended.

A2-Lite

A2-Lite offers lower CPU usage while maintaining much of the sonic quality of A2-Full.

For larger sessions and lower-powered systems, A2-Lite can be an excellent option.

To put this into perspective, a modern Apple Silicon MacBook can typically run approximately:

* Around 64 instances of A2-Full
* Around 200 instances of A2-Lite

simultaneously.

Switching Between A2-Full and A2-Lite

When an A2 profile is loaded in Gateway, a slider will appear on the right-hand side of the interface.

Click the slider to reveal the Slim control.

* Slim = 1.0 → A2-Full
* Slim = 0.0 → A2-Lite

Turning the control fully to the right selects A2-Full.

Turning the control fully to the left selects A2-Lite.

NAM Universal Support

At the time of writing, NAM Universal does not yet support A2 profiles.

Please continue using Gateway for A2 profiles until NAM Universal receives an update.

For users who require stereo processing, Gateway can still be used in a dual-mono configuration to achieve stereo-style operation.

We will update this page as soon as A2 support becomes available in NAM Universal.
