TOKYO STUDIO CAPTURE
Captured through real hardware. Not modeled — preserved.

“Heard about this unit for years — one of those legendary pieces you don’t really get access to.
It’s subtle, but definitely doing something. Been using “Invisible Glue” on the mix bus and it just pulls everything together in a really natural way.
Adds a bit of depth and polish without messing with the balance. Just feels more finished.
Hard to explain, but yeah… it works.”

S-PL Mechahead Tape Emulator

Legendary tone. Invisible enhancement. Mix-defining depth.

The Mechahead is not about obvious processing — it’s about the sound you feel but can’t quite explain.

A rare and highly sought-after processor, rumored to be part of the signature sound of top-tier engineers, it adds depth, polish, and cohesion in a way that feels almost invisible — yet unmistakable.

Often described as a true “Master Bus Secret Weapon.”

Often associated with superstar mix engineer Serban Ghenea, this unit has achieved near-legendary status, with used market prices exceeding $10,000.

Special thanks to Mr. Nishiki for his generosity and trust in making this capture possible.

Audio Demo

Compare the original hardware signal and the NAM profile across a range of sources — bass, guitar, synth, and more.
Each example demonstrates how closely the profile captures the tone, dynamics, and harmonic response of the hardware.
The NAM and hardware samples are gain-matched to allow for a more accurate evaluation of the capture’s fidelity.
For additional context, a dry (unprocessed) version is also included.

Why this capture is different

  • Extremely rare hardware, carefully profiled
  • Subtle enhancement captured with precision
  • Designed for final-stage mix refinement

Waveform Comparison (Hardware vs NAM)

Below is a direct comparison between the original hardware signal and the NAM profile output.
This visualization highlights how accurately the subtle harmonic and dynamic behavior are preserved.

Technical notes

  • Format: NAM (.nam)
  • Sample Rate: 48kHz
  • Capture Type: Real hardware
  • Calibration: Studio-level gain staging

Gain Staging Advice

Our captures are pre-calibrated at -18 dBFS input level.
For best results, we recommend feeding the plugin with an input signal close to -18 dBFS.

Due to gain reduction during the profiling process, the output level of a loaded profile may be slightly lower than the original input signal.

Please adjust the Output control to match your source level or to reach your preferred listening volume.

Wait… is this actually the Serban sauce? Just tried the mix bus profile for ‘that tone’ and the transient grip is insane. It doesn’t crush the dynamics, it just makes them… expensive? Tokyo Studio Capture, you guys are legends for this. Mind blown.
